Otterbone
Otter for his dark tabby pelt, bone for his leader position. warrior suffix was thorn, for his sharp tongue, mind, and claws.
CREEKCLAN | LEADER |
36 MOONS | MALE | HEMMINGWAY |
GREENLEAF | HETEROSEXUAL |
DESCRIPTION
Layered in stripes, this dark tabby has a medium length coat and a rather large build. His broad shoulders make him stand out among most cats, as well as the way in which he holds himself; with an air of regalness. His head is almost always held high and due to his height, he is constantly looking down at those around him. Green-hazel orbs almost pierce the hearts of those who he sets his gaze on, especially when his eyes aren't dilated. The right side of his face is scarred around the eye, where wounds never quite healed and his right ear is ticked in several areas. His whiskers almost look painted onto his dark face, as they are all white and stand out quite a bit when he's in the right light.
Under each of his eyes is a line of white, typical of tabbies as well as the front of his maw, however further along his maw it fades to a dark brown with black spots to dot where his whiskers begin. His paw pads are the same color as his nose, dark pink. The stripes along his body get darker around his elbows and the lower parts of his legs, turning his paws almost black. This tom's tail shares a very similar pattern, with the stripes getting larger until the tail tip itself is black. His tail is the same length of his body, perfect for balancing.
Ebony claws are almost always sheathed, however his paws are quite unlike most cats. His front paws have extra toes, giving him eight toes in total on his front paws. These two extra claws on each paw act as thumbs, giving him the ability to grasp more objects than most felines. This is because of a defect known in hemmingway breeds, however the trait can be passed down even when interbred with other breeds. Due to the inbreeding done previously in his line of cats, his upper incisors are slightly longer than they would be normally, though not enough so to poke out below his lips.
Unfortunately, these extra long teeth prove troublesome when he talks, though they don't give him a stutter they do a good job of making it look as though he's snarling when he speaks. As such, he tries to move his mouth as little as possible when pronouncing his words, unless he wants to scare the cat whom he is speaking to.

PERSONALITY
Aggressive
This tom is as far from passive as one can get. While not easily angered or quick to jump to physical action, he is naturally aggressive toward most other cats. This can prove intimidating, and he doesn't care in the least. He views it as one of his best traits, as it keeps his warriors in line and keeps the other Clan leaders from causing any trouble with him. This also relates to how defensive he can be on certain subjects, which result in him being overly aggressive in situations where it wouldn't be considered normal. If not kept under check, his aggressiveness can lead him to lash out at random times.Conscientious
Perhaps almost compulsive in his behavior, Otterbone is a perfectionist when it comes to following the Code of Bones, even though he himself has broken it. This trait makes him hard working and reliable when it comes to taking good care of his Clan, yet it also makes him get antsy when things aren't done the right way. It gets on his very last nerve to see the Clan anything but perfect, making him go to the extremes to make sure that it is. He has no limits, and will kill cats that inhibit the Clan from being what it can if he has viable reason to do so.Courageous
If there's one trait to describe this cat's actions, it's courageous. He will stop at nothing to get done what he sees fit and will look the death of himself or even others in the face, and laugh. However, courage doesn't stop at what one is willing to take physically, but also what one is willing to take mentally. Otterbone has no problem standing up for what he sees as morally right and will look opposition to his ideals without a flinch. When faced the popular hate, rumors, or even scandal, he has no fear.Cruel
In battle and in punishment, cruelty is his specialty. Rather than going for the swift kill, often times he will take his time and wound his opponent more than once before killing them. Punishment is another category all together. He takes his time in devising a punishment to make sure that it fits the crime, more so than it probably should. This includes forcing mates to kill one another, taking cats to the marsh, breaking their legs and leaving them for the alligators, or even starving them. Otterbone is definitely not against extreme measures.Empathetic
However cruel and self-centered Otterbone can be, he tries to see things from other perspectives before acting on them. He often puts himself in another cat's paw steps emotionally when trying to get to know a cat. To those he is close with, he can seem a softy emotionally. When a cat comes to Otterbone with a problem emotionally, so long as it's not breaking the Code of Bones, he normally has quite the insightful input. Resilient
Otterbone's past has forced him to become resilient to catastrophes, stress, disappointments and deaths. This adaptation has made him numb in the face of trouble, and rather than break down and get upset, he resorts to simply not caring or acting outward through aggression. The walls he has built up to prevent such emotions from being shared make him almost appear to be stoic, yet it is a front that is only up when he is in front of others. When alone, he often breaks down so that in public he can be seen as strong and ruthless rather than risk breaking down in front of others, which can be viewed as weak.Optimistic
As all great leaders have to be, Otterbone is optimistic when confronted with problems in his Clan. He will always look for a way to fix it and encourage others to be positive about it as well. Often times he can be seen encouraging his warriors and apprentices to go that extra paw step and be better than what their best is. This proves to win him favor in the Clan, as he is seen as good in this light rather than the cruel leader he can be. Optimism is a must for Otterbone, for it is perhaps one of the only lights in the dark path he leads.Possessive
Possessiveness of those whom he holds close and of the things he holds dear, Otterbone can go to the extremes to keep those close to him right where they are. Going over the top is often done so that Otterbone keeps the relationships he has, going out of his way to please them and keep them sacred. For the one she-cat he cares for most, he is most possessive. It borders on obsession, really. This tom cat only has eyes for her, and if anything stands in the way between himself and her, they're in for the worst experience of their quickly shortening lives. This possessive nature can sometimes cloud his thoughts and where he would make a decision for the better of the Clan at one moment, he will make a decision for the better of his possessions. His possessions extend to the territory that CreekClan reigns over and the cats in his Clan. However, it also narrows down to things as simple as his den. One thing many apprentices have learned, do not step paw in the leader's den without permission, as it will easily earn them their first battle marks.Vengeful
If Otterbone cannot take out his aggression on a cat at a particular time, he will be sure to get his revenge in due time. He is one cat that will never forget a wrong doing, no matter how small. Once enough of these wrong doings add up, they can easily earn a cat a place on his fox-dung list and have him scouting ways to get them killed without the Clan questioning it. To right a wrong doing in the eyes of Otterbone is nearly impossible, unless they grovel at his very paws for forgiveness - and even then, they best have a damn good reason for their wrong doing in the first place.HISTORY
Before Creation
His parents; both great warriors, had already blessed the Clan with several liters and were beginning to reach the end of their prime. With their last liter, his mother Littlepelt gave birth to one last kit, before dying due to complications in the birth. The father, distraught over his mate's death; the she-cat he had grown so fond of over their time as a mated pair, became obsessed with taking care of the kit she left behind. It was this love that Owlclaw instilled in Otterbone that led him to be kind to other cats, yet also gave rise to his possessive nature. Taking after his father, he strove to protect others and take care of them at all costs, yet as a young cat it spread out to all, rather than being close minded. Mangy Kit
As a kit, he led a relatively average life, except the fact that he was definitely larger than those who he shared the queen's den with. Due to his larger stature, rather than being picked on, he was greeted with awed respect and allowed to play whenever he wished to. However, as he neared apprenticehood, another kit was born into the world - one that definitely didn't look like her parents. Chubkit, they called her. From the time she was born to the time she was allowed to finally leave the nursery, he watched and protected her. He took to the beautiful kit immediately and as he saw her being bullied, he did his best to keep the other kits off her tail and play with her when he could. However, his father was constantly forcing him to spend time with him, as the needy tom sought out the comfort of his kit.Path of an Apprentice
When he finally became an apprentice, he found himself missing his friend, young Chubkit. While he got along famously with the other apprentices, he was never quite close to them. Instead, he filled his days with training and working harder and harder to become the best he could be. He had his eyes set on a prize - leader, and he would be sure to get it. Otterpath's attitude changed entirely though when Chubkit finally became Chubpath. Offering her a position in a nest next to his own, the young love blossomed. They shared meals and trained together daily, their mentors allowing it as the young apprentice Otterpath was training even harder - seeking to impress his crush.A warrior's life
By the time he was made into a warrior however, his entire life got flipped upside down. He had every intention of seeking out the leader's permission and becoming mates with his beloved, but the leader had other intentions. When Otterthorn approached the leader, he was told that love was weak - yet his bloodline still had to be passed on. Instead of being able to have kits with Chubfrost, he was forced to be paired with Owlfeather. Around the same time, his father died - leaving him with no one to counsel.Seeking now instead of a happy family - the power he had wanted as an apprentice, he faked his affection for her and simply went along with the ruse. The young she-cat was enamored with him, and it was thoroughly annoying. Whenever no one was watching, he often snapped at her - taking his aggression out on her often times and lashing out. However, that changed when his 'mate' turned up dead.
He had known what evil thoughts were passing through Chubfrost - he could see it in her gait. He took his mate's death in stride, without any remorse. When Chubfrost came to him to tell him that she had killed Owlfeather, he forgave her without a second thought. Embracing her regardless of the scars that marked her face and calling her his, for the first time in a long time. Perhaps the leader would see that Owlfeather was the wrong mate, and that he should be allowed to chose Chubfrost? Weeks passed and the two started to see one another in secret, falling head over heels for one another all over again. Could this really be happening?
Sacrifice
Oh no, the leader had something different in mind. Thinking that instead Otterthorn was unsuitable to mate with any she-cat, he set him up to be the next sacrifice at the no-moon gathering. Otterthorn, seeing the sense in his leaders decision accepted it, and began to train even harder. He started seeing Chubfrost less and strove to get as strong as he could as quickly as possible. The day of the no-moon gathering, before he was to leave, Chubfrost took him aside and told him the news that would save his life. She told him that she was pregnant with his kits, and that he should fight not just for himself, but for the lives of his kits.
With renewed vigor, Otterthorn attended the gathering and won. Taking down all three of his opponents with the ease of practice. He took down the first in a swift kill, anger spiking through his veins giving him more power than he would have had before. The second kill was messy - he had to harm the cat several times before being able to kill it, using everything he had to do so. However, the third kill wasn't won easily. He had half of his face badly hurt in the process and it was going around the watching cats that he would lose this last battle. The thought of his unborn kits urged him forward and he made the final kill, tearing out the younger warrior's throat.
He was praised for his win and showered with attention when he got back to the camp. His leader agreed that Otterthorn had earned his place within the Clan once more and allowed him to continue his life as he had before. Yet, Otterthorn was not quite the same anymore. After killing all three of the cats in quick succession, the love that his father had instilled in him had died. While still putting on the show that he was happy with his life, his eyes had lost their playful manner and had grown cold. He had seen the life leaked out of a warrior before his very teeth and claws. As this cold grew, so did the leader's ambitions. Viewing his own current deputy weak - he was killed. Forced to fight Otterthorn as proof that he could be better than even a cat who had survived the no-moon gathering, he was killed at the claws of Otterthorn. However, suffering once more from lacerations on the right side of his face - it left deep scars where no fur grew. While his eye was not damaged, it certainly gave the soon to be leader a mean look.
Deputy
His life as a deputy seemed to draw him away from his mate - who had lost her litter in the bitter winter that followed, absorbed by her body for nutrients. He began to grow away from her - not because of her lack of kits, but because of his ambition to be leader. He took his duties seriously and threw himself into his position to get away from the nightmares and the thought of blood on his claws that often wreaked havoc through his mind. He was tumbling downhill at a fast pace, and he knew it. However, that all changed when his leader was laid to rest and he was made leader. To bring life, life must be taken.
Seeing in his own eyes that he was losing the battle against himself, he threw his help line to the only cat he knew could help him - Chubfrost. Naming her his deputy to keep her out of the sacrifice herself and to keep her closer, he started to relax. He constantly sought attention from the she-cat. She was his everything, she was the stone that kept him from slipping into nothingness, to which he held onto with his dear life. His leadership ceremony followed soon after, and he realized he really didn't know what he was getting himself into. To be allowed to gain his lives - he was forced to kill cats that were already dead, ones he loved and those who he had already killed.
That fateful day he killed his own father, who gave him the blessing of Resilience, to stand strong regardless of what he had to do. The next life was that of vengeance, given to him through killing both the deputy and the first cat in that arena once more. His third was given through cruelty, of which he had to kill the second cat who had died in the arena. In going through these trials, he gained the essence of their very lives, giving him in total three extra lives.
This experience was perhaps even more tramatic then the day in the arena. To this day, Otterbone has vicious nightmares of what could have happened, what has happened, and what he could do to those around him on a moments notice. For this however, he has his mate Chubfrost, whom has never left his side. Regardless of the monster that lurks beneath his green eyes.
