Questing & Random Events
Hot damn, yes - we're cool like this.
QUESTING
What do quests do?
Why quest though? Isn't there an easier way?
Okay, so what kind of quests are there?
Alright, I got all of that. What does a quest typically require?
Sweet, so just one more question. Does BoneClan give out quests?
Quests exists for you to get certain items and buffs you can't find anywhere else. Sure you can buy whatever you want from the bazaar with the right amount of money, but the shops aren't always going to be in stock of everything, and you may not want to wait until what you want becomes available. In that respect, quests can become handy.
Why quest though? Isn't there an easier way?
There are easier ways, this is true, but questing is a fun, interesting way to get what you need, and you can also partake in something that takes you away from normal clan life. Wouldn't you like to be sent to spy on another clans territory or go herb hunting? Besides, why one earth would we let everything be easy?
Okay, so what kind of quests are there?
I'm glad you asked that! There are different quests that you can obtain differently, by talking to different NPC characters that will pop up randomly all over the map. There are two different basic types of quests you can partake in. The first one is the "Item Drop" This is a Random Event that a bunch of characters may participate in in order to win the certain item. The winner doesn't actually have control over the item he/she wins, but it's always going to be a random item on their wishlist (see Shop Rules.)
The second type of quest is one that is specifically given to you. Only leaders or Medicine Cats have the power to give your character a quest. These quests are given specifically to earn a certain buff that is not available in the buff shop when the quest is given.
Alright, I got all of that. What does a quest typically require?
Usually? Once you receive your task, you go out and have the number of threads you need, depicting your character going out and doing what they've been charged with. The amount of threads required varies. For instance, if a medicine cat sends you out to collect herbs, that wouldn't take very long. You should be able to collect the herbs and return to camp within a thread. The questing threads do not include the receiving thread, OR the turning in thread, though, so all together, the quest would last for 3 threads to complete and cash-in.
If the leader of PineClan requested you go spy on SunClan, however, it would take a LOT longer- first you have to travel to their territory, then you have to spend time gathering information while trying not to get caught, and then there's the return journey. Altogether completing this kind of quest would take five threads, including the receiving and cash-in threads.
For Quest Drops, they are run in much the same way as the chaos invasion in that they have a tier system. A random event thread will appear in a clan's territory specifically labeled "Quest Drop" and any one who wants to try their paws at winning the item, has to reply to the random event in a way that solves the riddle or problem presented. Just like with Chaos invasions, Quest Drops have three rounds, but no characters will be knocked out at the end of a round. You will have 72 hours to reply to a round before it continues on. When all three rounds are completed, the admin/judge with choose the cat who had the best solution to the problem, or the closest answer for the riddle. That cat will get a random item listed on their wishlist.
Sweet, so just one more question. Does BoneClan give out quests?
Rarely, and I mean, VERY rarely. BoneClan Quests are special quests that are so advanced and difficult, it is possible to die attempting to complete them. Only the bravest cats go there. In fact, they are so rare, that you have to complete three normal quests before you may even be considered worthy to ask for one.
RANDOM EVENTS
What is a random event?
Wow... that sounds rather... interesting? So, uh... what kind of events do they include?
... What kind of prizes? Are they valuable?
Cool! So is there any way to predict when they appear?
... it's a little self-explanatory, but okay. Random Events are admin-regulated events that randomly appear at random moments. They can be tacked into a thread, or start on their own, no one knows when they'll hit, or what they will do, unless someone manages to buy one when they make a rare appearance on the shelves of the bazaar. Otherwise, they can hit anyone, anywhere, anytime, and their effects are never the same, nor are they predictable in any way.
Wow... that sounds rather... interesting? So, uh... what kind of events do they include?
They can range from random enemy encounters (fox, dog, and badger attacks), to twoleg encounters. You can also stumble upon loners who will give you rare prizes if you help them out.
... What kind of prizes? Are they valuable?
Random Event prizes are prizes you literally can not find or obtain any other way. The items are unique and can either be kept and shown off, or they can be sold in the shop for boons. Some of them are actually useful, especially for finishing quests!
Cool! So is there any way to predict when they appear?
No. Unless you buy it off the shop, it's impossible to tell when a random event will show up. It's like walking through the tall grass in a Pokemon game- sometimes you get hit, sometimes you don't. Although there is a slightly higher chance of them appearing during a character's quest. it's still impossible to predict what kind of event will happen when they do appear.
